Big Baby!

We got Owen a Bumbo chair...and I think he likes it! The first picture is fuzzy because he moves so much, but it was too cute to delete. His head control is getting better which makes our lives easier. We can sit him up for a while and we get some free-hands time!

Speaking of head control...we need to give Owen some good tummy time so he can strengthen his neck and back muscles to sit and eventually crawl and walk. Here are a few pictures from last night. He's okay with it for a while but it's definitely not his idea of a good time.

Oh yeah! I weighed Owen this afternoon at my new moms group. He is 12 pounds, 2 ounces! That's 21 ounces in the last 14 days. In fact, he's ahead of where he "should" be for his age, even with the slow start. Woohoo!! :D

Smile!

What a happy kid!!

Owen has started dancing to music and it's the most amazing thing. He gets his arms and legs really going. He also smiles and giggles more than ever. We're really enjoying his happy, easy-going personality.

Now if only he'd sleep longer at night... ;)

More Bath Pictures

Our little guy loves taking baths! He would stay in it all night if we'd let him. The only part he doesn't like is getting out (but who does?!!?). When I loaded these pictures onto my computer last night, it hit me how much he really is growing. The first bath we gave him was terrifying. He was so small and we had to be really careful with his head so he didn't end up under water. Now, we still make sure he doesn't slip under, but he holds his head pretty well and is taking up more of the tub. Even though he loves it, I think Dan and I probably enjoy it even more. I also threw in a picture of a smile...kinda. He's been so smiley and happy but we haven't been able to get a really good picture. We will!

Happy Kid

Owen is such a happy baby. He smiles and laughs and talks to us a lot. Of course he still cries like any baby does, but he's got a great easy-going personality. He's sitting in his swing talking to the mobile right now.

I went out to lunch with a friend yesterday who has a 4-week old. It was the first time either of us had tried to go to a restaurant, so we thought there would be safety in numbers. Sure enough, both babies were great! Hers slept the whole time. Owen was awake when we got there but then slowly drifted off as lunch went on. I was still freaked out the whole time that he would wake up and need a diaper change or to nurse, but he was relaxed and happy. I wonder when my anxiety will let up. I'm tired of being scared to leave the house, especially since I feel so normal when I'm out.

I have my new mom's group today so that's an excuse every Wednesday to get out and talk with other moms who have the same questions, experiences and fears. I love Wednesdays. But not as much as Fridays when Dan comes home for the weekend. :)

Growth Spurt

This little man of ours is still going strong through his growth spurt. He's eating every hour and a half to two hours, but not sleeping too terribly much. I feel like I'm spending all of my time sitting on the couch nursing, with small breaks to get up and change his diapers. Fun! Here's a picture of one of his rare naps - of course it was just before I had to pack him up to take our car in for service...

Anyway, I weighed him on Wednesday after my new moms group and he was up to 10 pounds, 13 ounces - so just over a pound bigger than his birth weight. That was also 14 ounces more than 2 weeks before so he's right on track with gaining an ounce a day. Way to grow!

Happy Mother's Day

Dan, Owen and I celebrated our first Mother's Day together today. We had a great day! Owen woke up around 7:30 and was the happiest baby ever. He was smiling and cooing and just plain cute for about an hour, and then we all went downstairs for breakfast. Dan made omelets and coffee cake which was fantastic. We went out for a little bit and then Owen and I took a little nap. I think Owen is hitting another growth spurt because he's been eating all day, but that's fine by me. It still feels amazing to think that I'm continuing to grow this kid! Dan took some pictures of me with our little man while we were getting dinner ready. Enjoy!

Wow - One Month!

Our little baby boy is one whole month old today! It's amazing how fast the time has gone, yet I can't imagine what it was like before he was here. He's snoozing in his swing right now, after he slept for 10 hours last night (a 7 hour stretch, followed by another 3). I feel like a new person today!

We had a reunion with our pregnancy class yesterday which was really fun. We had the only boy baby of the group, so we were joking that Owen will thank us some day for setting up such a favorable party for him. At the end, we took photos of our babies all together. I could have watched them all day! One baby would fling an arm into another baby's face, who would in turn suck on the offending hand. Or one baby girl tried to suck on the heads of the two babies next to her. It was great to see them all again and to talk about how the last 4-8 weeks have gone for us and them. Aunt Kathy's blanket was the background for the pictures - thanks again!

4 Weeks Old

Owen is 4 weeks old - almost to the minute as I type this. He's currently sitting in his underwater exercise gym (pictures included!). He's eating well and sleeping well, and we're getting used to being parents. Time really does go by quickly! Dan's back at work, which has been challenging for me - more mentally than anything. Owen slept all day long yesterday but it's still hard to do this by myself. I'll get more confident, I'm sure, but I'm looking forward to the weekend and having Dan here again.
