Hints

Owen: Dad, I'm hungry!
Dan: What are you hungry for?
Owen: I'll give you hints.  It's big.  It's a pretzel.  It tastes good with mustard!
Dan: Hmm, what could it be?
Owen: A PRETZEL!  It will be awesome!

Family Photos

In mid-October, we had family photos taken by Beth Fleming at Golden Gardens Park.  It was the first weekend of actual Fall weather, of course, and it was cold and drizzly.  I tried to chicken out about the beach, and suggested meeting at our favorite doughnut shop instead.  But luckily, Beth talked me into starting at the beach, and moving to Top Pot if things got too nasty.

We spent about an hour walking around the park.  The boys loved playing in the leaves that had just started falling.  We walked along the pedestrian path by the marina.  We explored the sand and rocks on the beach.  It was cold.  It was wet.  But it was fun!

Here are some of the photos Beth took of our Mudgett clan!

School Photos

We just got the online proofs for Owen's Pre-K school photos.  There are some great ones and it was actually a hard decision to make!  Here's one of my favorites that we didn't choose:

When we get the one we did choose without the watermarks, I'll post that one too.  I love that you can feel his joy for life in this one!  What a handsome, happy kid.

Owen Earns His Stripes

Owen started Aikido at the end of August, and has been going three times per week since then (except a week when we were in Chicago, and a couple of weeks of a nasty cold).  He is working on harnessing his energy, and focusing on learning and mastering his white belt techniques.  There are four "tests" for colored stripes that go on his belt before he takes one master test of all the techniques to advance to a yellow belt.

On Halloween, Owen earned his first stripe.  He got his red stripe for forward and backward rolls.  We were very excited for him to get that first stripe, and Owen was excited that it was his favorite color.

Then today, Owen got to test for his blue stripe for Kokyu Dosa and Cross-hand Ikkyo!  Two stripes in three practices!  Here's a video of his test today:

Halloween Wrap-Up

It's November!  November 3rd, even.  What a fast October we just had!  Time to catch up with all of our October and Halloween happenings.

Early in the month, we went to The Farm in Snohomish, our annual pumpkin patch trip.  Both boys were pretty darn sick, but Owen loved all of the pumpkins and hiding in the huge corn stalks.  Josh was a little more hesitant and unhappy, at least until we let him down to walk around on his own.

The following weekend, our mom's group got together with the whole gang for a Halloween party and pizza decorating lunch.  It's HARD to get five 4-year olds and their siblings all together long enough for a photo.  Here are some of the better ones I got:

Somewhere between the party and actual Halloween, Owen changed his mind about his costume.  He didn't want to be Annakin Skywalker anymore, and instead insisted that he was going to be Mario (and Josh would be Luigi).  Dan found some colored shirts and matching overalls, and voila!!  Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures of Josh in his little costume, but I suppose it doesn't have to be October to get one.  Maybe a weekend project...

This site has stopped letting me upload photos, so I'll call this post good for now.  I'll update with Trick-or-Treating and pumpkin carving pictures next time!
