Proud Moment (One of Many)

Dan and I left Owen with a friend for the very first time this afternoon. Anne is a mom of a little redhead, Connor, who is one day younger than Owen. Owen and I walk around Greenlake with the two of them most mornings, and have playdates at least once a week. We had an appointment that would have been tough for Owen to sit through, so we dropped him off at the community center with Anne and Connor for an hour and a half to play.

When we were talking later, Anne told me this story:

Anne pulled out a bag of chocolate graham cracker cookies for the boys to snack on. At around the same time, a 2 year old girl was snacking on goldfish crackers across the room. Being little grazers, Owen and Connor made their way over to share in the goldfish, but the little girl wasn't so sure she wanted to share. Her mom told her there were plenty for everyone, and she reluctantly gave some crackers to the boys. After a few crackers, Owen walked back over to Anne and pointed at the chocolate bunnies. She handed him one, but he wouldn't take it -- he kept pointing at the bag. The other mom said that maybe Owen wanted to share his crackers too. And sure enough, when Anne offered a bunny to the little girl, Owen started nodding and went back to playing, happy that he got to share.

What an amazing kid!!

Our First Family Trip

Dan, Owen and I just got back from a 4-night trip in San Francisco! It was our first vacation as a family, and Owen did great. The flight there was a little hairy - Owen wanted to do anything BUT sit with us, even with his favorite book and lots of snacks. But that was the hardest part of the trip! Our hotel was great, we met up with two families with babies Owen's age, and got out of our comfort zone a bit. Owen was such a trooper - he put up with the long hours and lost sleep much better than I would! We visited a friend in Oakland, the San Francisco Zoo, Ghirardelli Square, the cable cars, Pier 39, Chinatown, Yerba Buena Gardens, the California Academy of Sciences, and did LOTS of walking. We opted for public transportation so that packing was easier, and that was an adventure in itself.

























It was a great trip, but it is also really nice to be home. Owen asked to go to bed at 6:15 and we were happy to oblige!

Owen's Big 0-1

Our baby turned 1 today. It seems impossible that a whole year has passed already! We had a great day with family and friends, celebrating the big event. Look for a future post of Owen's milestones this year, and some then-and-now picture comparisons. But for tonight, here are some pictures of the day!





























It was a great day with an early bedtime too! Happy Birthday, Owen Robin. Thank you for making us parents, and for all of the smiles and laughs this year! We love you!

Stomach Bug

Owen, Dan and I all got bit by the stomach bug this week. It started Monday with Owen getting sick. I got sick Tuesday morning, and Dan got it a little bit Tuesday night. When Owen started throwing up in his sleep last night, we took him to the ER to make sure he was okay. It was actually the best ER trip we've ever had. We were in and out in less than an hour, and some of that time was to make sure the anti-nausea medicine they gave him was working. It was a rough night, but we're on the other side now. And to celebrate, here are some pictures from the past week!

He Walks!

Three months after he started crawling, Owen started walking! I took him to play at the community center yesterday afternoon. Another kid was in a little plastic car toy, and Owen pulled up to standing on the back. The kid took off in the car, leaving Owen standing in the middle of the room. So Owen chased after him, taking 4-5 steps before sitting down and crawling the rest of the way. He took another step in the play room, and a couple more at home for Daddy. Then, today, we had a birthday party with my moms' group and Owen was practicing more. Here is a little video of his new moves at 11 months, 1 week and 4 days old:

Owen's First Haircut

This weekend, Dan and I took Owen to get his haircut. It was finally in his eyes and kind of a shaggy mess - a cute shaggy mess, but a mess none the less. He did great! He sat on a sea turtle stool, watched a movie, and played with toys. We didn't want to cut it short; we just wanted to clean it up.

11 Months Old
