12 Weeks Old

It's amazing how fast time goes. Our little guy is 12 weeks old today. He'll be 3 months next week. Crazy! Here are some miscellaneous pictures from the past week. Bath time, new mom's group, hand sucking...enjoy!

Tummy Time

Owen has been flipping himself from his back to his side, and even to his tummy twice yesterday morning! He seems to finally not hate being on his tummy. Obviously, that's a good thing if he's ever going to get strong enough to crawl. Here are a few pictures of his tummy time today.

Swingin' Away

Owen didn't sleep last night but fell asleep in his swing this morning. We're considering buying a second swing for our room to help him sleep at night when he's having trouble. But anyway, here are some pictures of him in his swing this morning.

Sleep

Owen has been an amazing sleeper since he was born. Last week, he was going to bed between 7:00 and 8:00 and only waking up once around 4:00 to eat. Then he got his shots and it all got messed up. :( The past two nights, he woke up around 1:00 or 2:00 and then fussed until we gave up around 7:00 or 8:00 and just got up for the day. I feed him, change his diaper, hold him...nothin'! It seems like he spends a lot of that time trying to expel gas but I can't imagine that's the whole story (since he's had gas all along...). So today, I'm posting pictures of him sleeping because those times are so amazing and we have apparently been taking them for granted!

Shots

Ugh. Owen got his first set of immunizations today and it was not fun. The poor guy was hungry when we got there and then he got the hiccups. He was crying before the shots even started, but then Dan got him calmed a bit. When the first shot went in, Owen shrieked. Luckily, the other two shots were done by the time Owen took a breath for the second big cry. Along with the three shots, he had an oral polio vaccine to drink. He downed it without any hesitation before the shots started. It must have been a nice change from breast milk! When the shots were done, Owen was pretty upset. I was crying too. We stayed in the office so I could nurse him. He eventually calmed down enough to eat, and then fell asleep. He stayed sleeping for a little over an hour, woke up to eat again, then napped for a little while longer.

Since then, he's been pretty good. He's moving his legs a lot, so if they're sore he's not really letting on. He's been crying harder than usual, but luckily not more often. He and I took a two-hour nap this afternoon, and he went to sleep for the night around 7:30. We've been giving him baby Tylenol every 4 hours and it seems to be helping. I hope that a full night without it doesn't leave him waking up stiff. The first 24-48 hours are supposed to be the hardest. I hope we've seen the worst for him already. Poor guy.

2 Months Old

Owen is 2 months old today. Amazing! This past month has flown by and Owen has grown so much. He's bigger and more alert, and definitely knows who we are. He's starting to sleep for longer stretches at night too, which is wonderful, though he did get up for good at 5:45 this morning. We'll work on that over time.

Today is the last new moms group meeting before we're on our own to get together. I hope we continue to meet up since I count on the company every week. It's nice to hear that I'm not alone with what I'm going through, and seeing other babies a month or more ahead of Owen gives me an insight into what's coming next. I keep thinking that next summer will be so much easier because Owen will be able to go to wading pools or the zoo or the park, but I don't want to rush this stage of his life. So I have to figure out what to do this summer so I don't go crazy sitting in the house all day.

Owen has his 2-month doctor's appointment on Friday which I have mixed feelings about. I'm excited to show his pediatrician how much he's grown, but I'm dreading all the shots that he's going to get. I know that they're for his own good and he won't remember them, but I know they'll hurt him and he'll be sore for a few days. Poor guy. I'm hoping it will be harder on me than on him. Maybe he won't even notice?

Well our little man is waking up from his morning swing nap. Happy 2 months, Baby Boy!

A Laugh

We have a happy kid. Super happy. He smiles to start our days and smiles to end our nights. He seems to love music with a good beat and songs that we sing. He doesn't even seem to mind diaper changes.

Of course, we have terrible timing and never capture those smiles on camera...until now!!

Dan and Owen have a really awesome relationship, and Dan gets way more smiles than I do. I'm not *too* jealous yet because I get smiles too, but Owen and my relationship is different. I'm so happy that Dan and Owen have their buddy time. Here's a short video of some of their play time today when Dan got home from work. The laugh that comes about 30 seconds in may be the first real hardy laugh Owen has had, so enjoy!
